Eyeliner Hacks You NEED To Try

Few things in the world of beauty are more frustrating than the moment you ruin your entire look with unflattering eyelashes “mascara or eyeliner“.

Next time, try one of these tips from Chicago-based makeup artist Paula Heckenast to up your eyebrow game.

While a pencil sharpener with a built-in smudger on the end may look fancy, it won’t give you the best effect, says Paula.

Instead, use a shade of your color (glossy or matte will work, depending on the look you’re going for).

Add it to the brush and use it to smoke the liner for a bright look.

This will make it a stain that is easy to mix and last.

Do you have a pencil that looks like sandpaper on your eyelids?

Not good, to say the least.

Try drying the tip with a hair dryer to soften the pencil and make it easier to apply.

“Don’t hold it too long,” said Paula. Two or three seconds should be enough to soften the pencil enough to glide over your liquid.

Mascara is like eyeliner?

Worst case scenario:

You prepare in the light and realize that you have no eyelashes, only mascara.

Don’t worry, you can work around this.

Paula says you can use mascara to line your lash line just like you would eyeliner.

Simply apply mascara close to the lash line, pressing it into the skin to create a smudge line.

If you have a brush, use it – you can stick the brush to the side of the mascara wand and apply the product like a gel liner.

One catch:

Paula says it should only be used on lids, not liquids.

Start from the outside

Paula says that in order to get a naturally consistent line, you need to start at the outer corner of your eye and work your way inward.

“Create the look you want your liner to go for instead of flying it,” she says.

In this way, you can visualize how you want your liner to look at the beginning – winged, thick or very thin, however you feel that day – and go to ‘all the way.

Paula says that’s how she does it with students every time.

Use a pencil as a guide for the liquid

Creating a free standing line takes practice — and even wealthy people get it wrong sometimes, Paula says.

If you do not want to spend a ton of time reaching your cat’s eyes repeatedly in front of the mirror, it is recommended to use a business card to line your foil.

Simply press the card from the corner of your eye to the tip of your eyelid and draw your line along the edge.
